GBARNGA, September 21 (LINA) –The United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL) has donated to the Bong County Ebola Taskforce two 5.5kva generators, 40kg of chlorine and 500 pieces of hand-washing containers.

The donation is in furtherance of UNMIL’s quick impact project support to the county to help it respond to the Ebola situation.

Making the presentation at the weekend at a ceremony attended by 11 of the County’s 13 District Commissioners, UNMIL Bong County Field Officer, Moses Abimbola Orogade, said the Ebola outbreak has shifted the mission’s attention to the virus rather than building schools, police and security facilities that only healthy people can occupy and operate.

He said the mission has succeeded in the procurement of the generators it promised for the Ebola Treatment Unit (ETU), Chlorine and hand washing containers and called on the commissioners to ensure equitable distribution of the material to the least villages and towns in their districts.

Superintendent Selena Polson Mappy praised UNMIL for the support, describing the UN as a true friend of the Liberian people that has tirelessly worked in restoring peace and is now helping in the Ebola fight.

“Your support to us is of no surprise and we will forever remember your gestures,” noted Mappy.

She then called on the commissioners to make sure the containers and chlorine reach the needy with documentation presented to her office for accountability.

She appealed to UNMIL, Save the Children, and UNICEF to give attention to the survival of children whose parents died of the virus and need someone to cater to them.

In remarks Commissioner Clyde Saul and Paramount Chief Arthur Wennah thanked UNMIL for the donation and promised to properly account for all they have received.

Each commissioner was given 30 containers, a quantity of chlorine and transportation allowance.
