MONROVIA, September 22 (LINA) -The Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL) and the United States Army will jointly construct the initial nine Ebola Treatment Units (ETUs) in the country, Deputy Information Minister for Public Affairs, Atty. Isaac Jackson, has disclosed.

Addressing the daily Ministry of Information press conference Monday, Jackson said government has already identified some potential sites in Monrovia and its environs where the Liberian and U.S. armies will construct a total of 17 ETUs.
He said the AFL will no longer be seen at checkpoints or border posts, but will be replaced with officers of the Liberia National Police (LNP) to enable them provide support to construction of the ETUs.
Minister Jackson said members of the AFL are trained and equipped to provide technical support in times of crises and national emergency, noting that they have served the purpose for which they were deployed at checkpoints and border areas.
He noted that their withdrawal from checkpoints has nothing to do with the lifting of the curfew or state of emergency as is being speculated, adding that “their withdrawal is intended for them to work along with the U.S. army and explore new assignments.”

Meanwhile, the minister has called on Liberians to continue to comply with the curfew regulations.
