TUBMANBURG, October 3 (LINA) -The Bomi County Health Team (CHT) has released 11 Ebola survivors from a community treatment center in Tubmanburg, Bomi County.
The center, located behind the Liberian Government Hospital, was established as a result of the second wave of the Ebola outbreak to buttress government’s effort in containing the spread of the disease.
County Health Officer Dr. Gorbee Logan, who presented the survivors, said cultural and religious beliefs have contributed to denial, thus leading to the spread of the virus in the county.
Presenting the survivors Friday at the Liberian Government Hospital in Tubmanburg, Logan said he applied a combination of drugs and other symptomatic treatments to 15 patients, 11 of whom survived the virus.
Logan said the drugs have proven to be effective, because they have been used in the treatment of Hepatitis ‘B’, including the combination of two to three other medications to treat HIV/AIDS.
Explaining further, Logan disclosed that the drugs can only work effectively in patients who are brought to treatment centers on time, adding, “When the patients turn themselves over on time, and are treated with the drugs, they survive within three to five days.”
He called on government to assist the County Health Team so that the drugs can be further tested.
Receiving the survivors, House Speaker J. Alex Tyler thanked Dr. Logan and his team and pledged government’s commitment to continue providing assistance to the county health team as the country struggles to contain the virus.
Tyler called on citizens to desist from negative acts that help to spread the virus.
