SANNIQUELLIE, October 7 (LINA) – The head of the Nimba County Health Team (CHT), Dr. Collins Boah, has suspended five officials of the CHT for their alleged link to the disappearance of over 200 bags of rice at a local hospital.

The CHT head said the decision to have the five employees suspended was taken in consultation with the Nimba County Health Board.

Dr. Boah said while the accused are yet to exonerate themselves from the allegation levied against them in court, it is necessary to relieve them from official duties as a means of granting them sufficient time to organize their legal defense.

Those suspended are County Birth Enumeration Officer, Sarah Layweh; Head of Psychosocial Counseling Department, Kou Yeelebo; Warehouse Manager, Bleh Vah; Community Health Director, C. Paul Nyenzee; and Precelia Monmai of the County Health Team.

Dr. Boah told the press over the weekend that the five officials are suspended until a court of competent jurisdiction finds them not guilty of the alleged rice theft.

Preliminary police probe reveals that nine persons reportedly linked to the disappearance of 200 bags of rice from the George W. Harley Hospital’s warehouse in Sanniquellie have been arrested so far.

It was reported recently that out of 1,000 bags of rice provided by the World Food Program, 200 bags disappeared from the G.W. Harley Hospital’s warehouse, prompting security investigation into the alleged theft.
