MONROVIA, October 14 (LINA) - Dr. Frank Mahoney, a medical officer of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), has said it is advisable to always perform proper burial protocols because the body of an Ebola victim is then highly concentrated with the virus.

According to Dr. Mahoney, when the virus gets released more into secretions such as saliva and sweat that is when it becomes more dangerous.

Providing technical analysis on the contagious nature of dead Ebola victims at the Ministry of Information daily Ebola news briefing on Tuesday, Mahoney said that’s why it requires all to be careful with measures in dealing with dead Ebola victims.

He stressed that this is a crucial step in breaking the chain of transmission of the ebolavirus.

“You cannot cater to a dead victim without wearing protective clothing. It is extremely dangerous, that is why some counties in Liberia such as Lofa, safe burial practice is now becoming prevalent to curtail the spread of the virus.”

He said the CDC is working closely with government and its partners to continue to spread the messages so that people cannot venture into burial practices which will endanger the country and the community.

Mahoney said given the level of coordination being exhibited among members of the response team the country will achieve its goal of eradicating the Ebola virus.

Meanwhile, the CDC official has reaffirmed his organization’s commitment to providing technical aid to Liberia until the virus is eliminated.

“We are working with every partner to ensure that the country is safe again. The CDC will be in the country until the virus is defeated, we believe in this partnership and that is why we all must remain focused on the task ahead,” Mahoney noted.
