MONROVIA, October 15 (LINA) – The U.S. government has come to the rescue of Liberian health workers, promising training, subvention of their hazard pay and state-of-the-art medical facility for Ebola-infected healthcare givers.

The Administrator of U. S. Agency for International Development, Dr. Rajiv Shah, has said the U.S. will avail additional resources to help expand ‘critical training’ for healthcare workers and burial teams across the country.

Dr. Shah also disclosed that the U.S Government will provide additional US$5 million to the Government of Liberia to support the compensation package for health workers to enable them effectively carry out their duties.

The USAID official made the disclosure at a joint press conference held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Monrovia on Tuesday, when he and Norway Foreign Minister paid President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf an official visit.

Shah said the plans include a “high quality” 25-bed “critical care hospital that will be staffed by U.S medical professionals to treat Ebola-infected healthcare workers.
In remarks, President Sirleaf thanked the United States Government for their continuous support to the Government and people of Liberia, noting that a long-term support will improve Liberia’s health delivery system.
