MONROVIA, November 6 (LINA)-The Special Liberia Development Alliance (LDA) Steering Committee aimed at advancing preparation for the post-Ebola era and the resumption of normal economic activities ended its meeting on Wednesday.
Chairing the meeting held in the Foreign Ministry’s C. Cecil Dennis auditorium in Monrovia, President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf told participants “We will seek to acquaint ourselves with actions and processes to be undertaken for support and cooperation. By this, we are commencing the process to be followed during the post-Ebola period.”
According to an Executive Mansion release the LDA brings together government, the private sector and civil society to ensure the implementation of the Agenda for Transformation - the country’s five-year development plan drawn from the “Vision 2030” Development Plan.
Opening the meeting, President Sirleaf acknowledged the role of all sectors of the Liberian society and international partners in the fight against the Ebola virus.
Reports and updates were received on the status of national development projects in the areas of energy, infrastructure, agriculture and ports. Submissions were also made on concessions in the mining and agriculture sectors.
The leading sectors like Ministries of Public Works, Lands, Mines and Energy, Agriculture, Roberts International Airport, Bureau of Concession updated the Steering Committee Meeting on the status of national development projects and decided on the way forward for those projects.
The Minister of Finance and Development Planning, who is also the national coordinator of the LDA, updated the meeting on the status of the Fiscal Year 2014/2015 Budget and the country’s economic recovery plan.
The LDA was established after the adoption of the “Vision 2030” Development Plan and the Agenda for Transformation to oversee the implementation of the country’s development programs.
It includes major partners like the United States and Chinese Governments, European Union Governments, the European Union, African Development Bank, World Bank, International Non-Governmental Organizations, private sector institutions and representatives from Liberia’s civil society organizations.
