MONROVIA, November 13 (LINA) - President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has praised the resilience of healthcare workers in Liberia’s ongoing health crisis.

“The progress we have made would have been impossible without the efforts of all of our citizens, especially healthcare workers,” President Sirleaf said.

The President’s statement was contained in a nationwide address she made Thursday at her Ministry of Foreign Affairs office in Monrovia.

The Liberian leader noted that health workers during the country’s “darkest hours stood and fought back” against the Ebola virus by actively identifying cases and improving the process of contact tracing.

She said with the proper management of the Ebola outbreak through an incidence management system and the social mobilization of communities as well as the global mobilization of resources, Liberia will continue to fight back and make progress against the Ebola virus.

The Liberian Chief Executive reiterated the call for Liberians to continue to adhere to the preventive measures outlined by health authorities.

“With all the gains we have made a number of our compatriots are still dying in ETUs, hot spots are springing up in rural areas; this means that we cannot let down our guard nor can we afford to reduce our vigilance,” the president emphasized.
