MONROVIA, November 17 (LINA) - A professor of International Health at the Karolinska Institute in Sweden has called on the Liberian government and its partners to focus on maximizing response to Ebola-related cases.

Hans Rosling, who is on a special assignment to Liberia with the United Nations Mission for Ebola Emergency Response (UNMEER), noted that response should be especially in the area of laboratory testing, contact tracing and speedy isolation of infected people.

Rosling made the call at the Ministry of Information daily Ebola press conference held at the ministry in Monrovia Monday.

“Ebola has submerged beneath the surface which means that the virus is in its dangerous phase because it is currently hiding among the common illnesses, and capacity to test and identify the virus should be prioritized,” he added.

He emphasized that international response to Liberia’s Ebola crisis was slow, which according to him, contributed to the overwhelming impact the virus has had on the country.

He added that Ebola requires a rapid response process that will address the virus as soon as it surfaces, something which, he noted, was lacking at the initial outbreak in Liberia in March this year.

Karolinska Institute is a medical university in Solna, Sweden, and one of Europe's largest and most prestigious medical universities.
