MONROVIA, November 18 (LINA) - An official of the Ministry of Health has expressed concern that the migration of Ebola patients from Monrovia to other parts of Liberia is leading to the rapid spread of the virus.

Assistant Health Minister for Preventive Services Tolbert Nyenswah blamed the recent emergence of few hotspots of the Ebola virus in Grand Bassa and Bong counties on the movement of Ebola patients to those areas.

He made the statement Tuesday at the Ministry of Information daily Ebola press conference held at the ministry in Monrovia.

Nyenswah, who also heads the Incidence Management System, has also appealed to the public to desist from transporting the virus in such manner, noting, “It is against the nation’s progress in uprooting the Ebola disease.”

“We want to appeal to our people not to accept sick strangers who travel from Monrovia into their homes. If someone goes into your home, county or village, make sure you keep surveillance and inform the health authorities quickly,” Nyenswah said.

Nyenswah said contrary to what happened over the past six months when Ebola haunted the Liberian people, it is the Ebola virus that is now being hunted through the effective contact tracing system put in place.
