MONROVIA, November 25 (LINA) - The Liberian Senate has rejected Health Minister-designate George Werner for “lack of requisite qualities to fill the gap.”

According to the Liberia News Agency, more than 20 of the 26 senators present voted against the nominee, with no motion for reconsideration filed.

The decision was taken Tuesday following the health committee’s report signed by five of its seven members, indicating that the nominee was given due diligence during the hearing.

Even though the Act that created the Ministry of Health does not restrict the position to only health practitioners, the nominee holds a Master’s degree in social work from the University of Pennsylvania.

It can be recalled that the Senate Committee on Health last week cited for confirmation hearing health minister-designate Werner one week after his nomination by President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf.
