MONROVIA Dec 9(LINA)-The Chairman of the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC), James Verdier, has called on members of the National Legislature to enact “enabling laws” to strengthen the Commission in its investigation and prosecution of corrupt conducts.

According to the Liberia News Agency, Verdier made the statement Tuesday during the 2014 International Anti-Corruption Day celebration held at the LACC headquarters in Monrovia.

Verdier said the Commission is often criticized in many quarters as being weak and ineffective.

He added: “But when the Commission acts tough either by releasing an investigation report or commences the process to prosecute individuals or institutions for their alleged involvement in acts of corruption, the Commission is chided for the most part by the public.”

Verdier noted that such development certainly undermines the fights against corruption. “This is why we are seeking additional legislation to protect whistle blowers and give the Commission flexibility to deal promptly with corruption cases,” he added.
