MONROVIA, December 09 (LINA)-The Country Director of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), Dr. Kamil Kamaluddeen,  has called for the involvement of local dwellers in earmarking projects to be implemented in their localities.

According to Kamaluddeen, this will ensure transparency and accountability in the implementation of projects in the local communities and enhance decentralization, and pledged the UNDP’s fullest support in this endeavor.

The UNDP Country Director made the call Tuesday at the annual meeting of the Board of Directors of the Liberia Decentralization Support Program (LDSP) held at the Monrovia City Hall.

He indicated that while it is good to lay the framework for decentralization, it is also essential for local authorities to provide the needed services for communities at their own initiative without the involvement of central government.
