The acting Chairman of the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC), Cllr. Augustine Toe, has said reports that Police Director Chris Massaquoi is under LACC investigation for alleged theft is far from the truth.

In its Thursday, January 15, 2015 edition, the FrontpageAfrica newspaper reported that LACC extended Massaquoi an invitation for a probe regarding two police employees whose whereabouts are unknown after allegedly cashing a US$31,000 check at the Central Bank of Liberia on December 4, 2014.

But Commissioner Toe told the Liberia News Agency Thursday that LACC has not cited Massaquoi for any investigation nor is the commission aware e of any allegation of theft against the police chief.

“We have not received complaint from anyone about theft by Mr. Massaquoi or corruption at the Liberia National Police,” he noted, adding: “We do not investigate theft but corruption.”

He confirmed receiving a call from a female reporter of the newspaper late Wednesday night requesting confirmation of the information that Massaquoi is being investigated.

“I told her I cannot immediately confirm such information until I find out from LACC investigators,” Toe explained, adding, “The investigators told me this morning (Thursday) they were not aware of such information either.”

Meanwhile, Massaquoi was not immediately available for comment.
