Addressing the nation Wednesday evening on the eve of the start of campaigning for the December 16 polls, President Sirleaf said while it is important to uphold democratic tenets, it is also binding on all politicians, voters and others to avoid “playing doctor” by attending to the sick and the dead.

She said during these difficult time, all Liberians should stop hugging, wash their hands regularly and check their temperature at places where such instrument will be found.

According to the Liberian leader, the safety of the people will not be compromised and stringent measures will be taken to ensure that complacency and other activities that will undermine the gains be strongly discouraged.

“We all know what to do in order to prevent ourselves from contracting the disease,” she said, adding, “When someone dies, we should call the ambulance or the healthcare respondent and they will know exactly what to do as medical practitioners.”

President Sirleaf said “we all like our tradition, but these are not normal times so we must let go some of our habits.”
