MONROVIA, November 27 (LINA) -The Government of Liberia has warned against acts of violence during campaigning for the special senatorial election, and vowed to hold campaign managers responsible for such acts.
Speaking at the Ministry of Information regular news conference held at the ministry in Monrovia Thursday, Information Minister Lewis Brown said people should be given the chance to peacefully campaign so that the electorate can make independent decisions.
Brown noted that the essence of democracy is for people to exercise their rights without interference and violence and that it is incumbent upon campaign managers to encourage partisans or followers to comport themselves properly.
“We will hold campaign managers responsible for any act of violence and rioting. Liberia is no longer the place where we can intimidate or threaten people; there is no place in our democracy for such act,” Brown said.”
Meanwhile, the Information Minister has reiterated government’s appeal for Ebola prevention sensitization during the campaign process.
He said contestants should refrain from going into crowded or congested
gatherings to prevent themselves from contracting the Ebola virus.
