Sloh Wants Journalists Undergo Environmental Studies

BUCHANAN, January 21 (LINA) - The Director-General of the Liberia News Agency (LINA), J. Nagbe Sloh, has said government should build the capacity of journalists on environmental issues reporting to help prevent further environmental pollution and climate change.

 

Sloh asserted that journalists must be empowered through the provision of scholarships and other opportunities to study in the sector to enable them serve as mediums through which the country's developmental agenda can be positively impacted.

The LINA boss made the statement in Buchanan, Grand Bassa County on Wednesday when represented Information Minister Lewis Brow as keynote speaker at the start of a three-day “Media Environmental and Climate Change” workshop.

"Help educate journalists so that they can educate the public on how to prevent harmful environmental practices that lead to climate change," Sloh indicated.

Sloh also admonished journalists attending the worship to take interest in other issues and become specialized in reporting on finance, health and other subjects that will impact societal growth.

He pointed out that informing the public through news articles and analysis are required to provide a clear picture to the public about environmental risks and climate change.

Meanwhile, Sloh has applauded the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the Press Union of Liberia (PUL) and other organizing partners of the workshop for the step taken in piloting a training session aimed at equipping Liberian journalists.
