“Do Not Abuse Our Multi-Party Democracy,” Bowier Urges

MONFROVIA, November 28 (LINA) – Former Information Minister Emmanuel Bowier has cautioned Liberians against acts that have the propensity to abuse Liberia’s multi-party democracy.

Bowier wants Liberians to embrace the nation’s multi-party system which, according to him, affords people the opportunity to vote into power leaders of their choice rather than live with imposed monarchs.

The former Information minister made the appeal at the Ministry of Information regular press conference held at the ministry in Monrovia on Thursday.

He noted that political campaigns are intended to afford contestants the opportunity to solicit votes and should be done with respect, taking into consideration the rights of others and the nation’s pride.

According to him, the only way democracy can flourish is when people are given the chance to campaign and vote in peace because violence is not an option for success, noting that the use of ideas and positive strategies is required to win the people’s votes.

Bowier is therefore urging Liberians to canvass in the spirit of friendship and nationalism, noting “throughout history people suffer when friendship is broken.”
