MONROVIA, January 21 (LINA) - The Supreme Court has concluded arguments in the first phase of hearings in the petition for the Writ of Prohibition filed by some aggrieved candidates in the just-ended Mid-term Senatorial Election.

According to the Liberia News Agency, the first phase in the hearing dealt with whether the National Election Commission (NEC) has the sole power to declare and certificate winners in an election.

The second phase in the hearing, which is expected to begin shortly, will deal with alleged election bribery and other irregularities that might have impacted the election results.

Earlier, legal counsels of both plaintiff and defense were given 30 minutes each for arguments.
A writ of prohibition was filed against NEC declared winners in the just-ended mid-term senatorial election contesting the results.
