MONROVIA, September 8 (LINA) - Maryland County Representative Bhofal Chambers has called on the government to reopen all roads closed in areas that are not affected by the Ebola virus outbreak.
Chambers noted that the prolonged closure of the roads was exacerbating the suffering of Liberians, especially people in the Southeast as the movement of goods and services has been hampered.
The Liberia News Agency (LINA) reports that the lawmaker made the recommendation on Monday, September 8, when he appeared on a local radio talk show in Monrovia.
He argued that the people did not prepare for such situation because they were not given prior notice by the government as is being done by the Government of neighboring Sierra Leone.
Chambers indicated that dozens of people who embarked on business trips to Monrovia and rural Liberia before the closure of the roads some three weeks ago are stranded, describing the situation as troubling.
He maintained that the government should now concentrate on putting a system in place by establishing equipped testing centers with trained health workers at entry points in those areas to test travelers.
