MONROVIA, November 15 (LINA) –The Managing Director of the National Drug Service (NDS), Beyan K. Johnson, Friday testified for the state at the Criminal Court “C” in the theft of property and forgery case against Wesley Jlue, former finance officer of NDS.

He alleged that from November 2012 to March 2014, defendant Wesley Jlue then finance officer of NDS criminally and intentionally defrauded, deprived and stole the sums of US$179,183.06 and LD$958,247.80 entrusted to the NDS by donors and clients.

The indictment shows that defendant Jlue was arrested in March 2014 by the Liberia National Police (LNP) and charged with theft of property and forgery  

Johnson said the National Drug Service (NDS) is an agency of government responsible to buy medical drugs and supplies for government hospitals,  health centers and clinics.

Johnson said he has been working with the NDS for over 18 years, and that since his appointment NDS operation accounts have been maintained at the Liberia Bank for Development and Investment (LBDI) and EcoBank both in USD and LD, “noting the USD is maintained at the Ecobank where the global funds demand that recipients maintain an account”.  

The defendant is undergoing investigation at the Criminal Court “C” at the Temple of Justice in Monrovia.

Wlue has denied the charges brought against him.

Meanwhile, the trial continues on Monday at 10:00 am.
