MONROVIA, August 30 (LINA) - Commerce Minister Axel Addy has assured that the government will promote the local manufacturing industry in Liberia rather than dwell on issuance of clearance to businessmen to import every commodity.

Minister Addy said the local manufacturing industry will enhance employment opportunities, while the importation of nearly all basic commodities for the Liberian market will spark off capital flight.
The Commerce Minister gave the assurance Friday on the Business and Economy Program of UNMIL Radio in Monrovia.
He explained that one of the key priorities of the Ministry of Commerce is to follow the instructions of African leaders as the continent’s common position for greater push of manufacturing in African countries which would improve the jobless situation in several African nations.
He stressed that to improve the huge deficit in the country’s employment situation the local manufacturing industry should be promoted to create employment for Liberians rather than encouraging importation.
Minister Addy emphasized that Liberia has the potential to promote local manufacturing, especially in the agriculture sector, which would contribute significantly to employment in the country.
