BUCHANAN, September 30 (LINA) - Buchanan City Mayor Julia K. Bono has instructed the City Police to arrest any child found selling in the streets, noting that violators will be forwarded to court for prosecution.

She said the action was intended to curb the practice of parents, sponsors and guardians sending under-age children to sell in the streets, putting their lives at risk.

Mayor Bono sounded the warning in an interview with the Liberia News Agency on Tuesday at her Fairground Office in Buchanan, Grand Bassa County.

She said: “When we are thinking about fighting Ebola, our children, our future leaders are seen parading street corners selling plastic bags, farina and other consumable items, when in fact they could get in contact with carriers of Ebola to exacerbate the situation.”

Bono said further: “If our kids get infected, they too will spread it among family members who will then transmit the virus unknowingly to innocent people.”

“Let’s keep our children home in this crisis time, buy them reading books, just keep them busy in the homes until this virulent disease is kicked out,” she added.
