MONROVIA, December 10 (LINA) - President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has sent a message of condolence to the Government and People of the Federal Republic of Nigeria for the death of its former Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary and former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Olugbenga A. Ashiru.

According to a Foreign Ministry release issued here Wednesday, President Sirleaf extended deepest condolences to President Goodluck Jonathan, and through him, to the People of Nigeria, especially the bereaved families, for the irreparable loss.

She prayed that Almighty God consoles the President and People of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as they go through this period of national mourning.

The Nigerian former Foreign Minister, aged 66, died on Saturday at a hospital in South Africa following a period of illness.

Ashiru succeeded in securing 22 key international appointments some of which included the commissioner for political affairs at the African Union and Commissioner for peace and security at the ECOWAS Commission, for Nigeria
