Boakai Lauds Liberians, Senatorial Aspirants For Peaceful Election

MONROVIA, January 5 (LINA)-Vice President Joseph N. Boakai has lauded Liberian voters and both winners and losers of the December 20, 2014 midterm Senatorial Election for ensuring a peaceful exercise.

Vice President Boakai noted that it was remarkable that the losers respectfully conceded defeat and remained peaceful, and cautioned the 15 newly-elected senators to be useful leaders in the National Legislature,  

Vice President Boakai made the commendation Saturday at the headquarters of the National Elections Commission in Monrovia during the certification ceremony of Senators- elect.
The NEC certificated all senators elected during the December 20, 2014 Special Senatorial Election, except Cllr. Varney Sherman (UP) of Grand Cape Mount County, James Tornola (PUP) of Margibi  County and Morris Saytuma (UP) of Bomi County.
They were not certificated due to a Supreme Court Stay Order arising from a Writ of Prohibition filed against them by aggrieved contestants of the election.
The Liberian Vice President has at the same time expressed thanks and appreciation to the international community and other partners of the Government of Liberia (GOL) for standing by the country and its citizens during this time of the deadly Ebola Virus Disease outbreak in Liberia.   
Meanwhile, Vice President Boakai has expressed regrets over the deaths of some registered voters as a result of the deadly Ebola Virus Disease outbreak in the country.
