MONROVIA, January 15 (LINA)-President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has challenged public officials to either perform their duties and responsibilities in the interest of the state or quit public service.
She said during the last three years of her administration, she will leave no stone unturned to ensure that her government realizes its goals, adding, “as such any public official, irrespective of who it may be, will be dismissed from public service if he or she fails to perform to expectation.”
According to the Liberia News Agency, President Sirleaf proffered the challenge Thursday at a program marking the induction into office of Justice Minister Benedict F.Sannoh at the Ministry of Justice in Monrovia.
In remarks at the ceremony, the Liberian leader commended officials and staff of the ministry as well as all security apparatus in the country for their performance over the years.
President Sirleaf noted that the success or failure of the government depends on all Liberians, and hence that it is incumbent on all public officials to perform to the best of their ability.
She lauded Liberian security for the able manner in which they discharged their duties and responsibilities over the years, despite budgetary constraints.
President Sirleaf also commended all security apparatus for the cooperation they accorded the Justice Ministry in the performance of their duties and responsibilities which, she noted, has led to successful operations over the years, and appealed to them to continue the good work.
The Liberian leader promised to continue to provide financial support to the security apparatus to enhance their operations, but cautioned the Ministry of Justice to formulate a workable plan to ensure that funds and logistics provided them are properly utilized.
