Information Minister Lewis Brown has lauded political parties for the responsible and patriotic manner in which they conducted their primaries for the Mid-term Senatorial Election slated for October.
Brown said the noteworthy manner in which political parties conducted themselves must be welcomed and applauded by all Liberians, noting that such comportment testifies to the fact that Liberians are truly desirous of cohabitating in peace.
He made the assertion Thursday at the Ministry of Information regular press briefing held in the ministry’s conference room in Monrovia.
The Minister noted that the conduct of the various primaries and local conventions by political parties that took place outside of the capital Monrovia, where local citizens peacefully rendered judgment on those favored to lead them instead of imposing leaders on them, was “a big step forward.”
Minister Brown has, meanwhile, thanked all the political parties and called on them to continue exhibiting such behavior adding, “This is helpful to Liberia’s emerging democracy. We all must help to sustain the peace we deserve.”
At the same time, the Information boss has commended the National Elections Commission (NEC) for the role it played in monitoring the conduct of political parties as they convened their primaries.
“It is one thing to have good laws and completely another thing to have them enforced, so we must thank the NEC for working very hard to enforce our election laws,” Brown noted.
