MONROVIA, August 26 (LINA) - The Liberian Government has exempted journalists from the curfew imposed recently as part of measures to contain the spread of the Ebola virus in the country.
According to Defense Minister Brownie Samukai, the government has decided to exempt journalists from the curfew because of the nature of their job, which is to inform the public about happenings in the country.
Minister Samukai made the disclosure Tuesday in a telephone interview on the Truth Breakfast Show.
He, however, stressed that only journalists accredited by the Press Union of Liberia (PUL) and the Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism affairs will be allowed to move about during curfew hours.
The Press Union of Liberia (PUL), the umbrella organization of journalists in the country, had appealed to government to allow journalists to work during curfew hours.
