MONROVIA, November14 (LINA) -Veteran Liberian educator Mary Brownell has expressed regret over the continued closure of schools in the country due to the Ebola virus outbreak.

She told the Liberia News Agency Thursday in an interview in Monrovia that the situation was undermining the education of the young people, especially the girl child.

Ms. Brownell indicated that most female students were already over-ageing for their class levels, noting that “it is easier for their time to expire than the boys.”

She said women are important development partners, particularly in nation-building, and so they must acquire the needed education to enable them meaningfully contribute to national reconstruction.

Brownell, one of the oldest educators the country, has devoted her life to educating young people and advocating for the rights of women and girls.
