MONROVIA December 4 (LINA) – Wesley Jlue, the former Finance Officer of the National Drug Service accused of allegedly stealing US$179,187.06 and LD$ 958.247.08 from the agency has denied the allegation.
According to the Liberia News Agency, Jlue was charged with theft of property and forgery and was indicted by a Grand Jury between November 2013 and March 2014.
Testifying in his own defense at the Criminal Court “C” at the Temple of Justice Thursday, Jlue noted that the records are there to prove his innocence, noting duties of developing annual budgets and reports were carried out in close collaboration with department heads.
Jlue further testified that he also developed project proposals in close collaboration with the managing director and developed budgets for projects required by donors with the supervision by of all staffs of the finance unit.
Jlue pointed out that all monies and checks he received are put into the system by the company’s finance personnel, William Farnga while the expenditure vouchers are put into the system by another finance department officer, Arthur Kun.
He said NDS has an employee book which clearly states that all finance transfers from department requested by department heads are approved by the managing director, adding that it is impossible for him to steal such an amount with such bureaucracy.
Meanwhile, the Presiding Judge of the Criminal Court “C,” Judge Yusuf Kaba, adjourned the case to resume Friday with Jlue continuing his testimony.
