MOA, SAI Sign US$495,278 Contract To Develop CARI

MONROVIA, December 18 (LINA) -The Ministry of Agriculture and the Sheladia Association Inc.(SAI), have signed a US$495,278 contract to provide architectural engineering consultancy which will lead to the rehabilitation of the Central Agriculture Research Institution (CARI) in Suakoko, Bong County.

 

The Director of the Program Management Unit at the Ministry of Agriculture (MOA), Dr. Moses Zinnah, said under the contract Sheladia Association is to conduct field investigation and do a topographic map, detailed architectural engineering design, assist with tender evaluation, and supervision for civil works construction and rehabilitation of CARI.

Speaking during the signing ceremony, Dr. Zinnah said the report from the consultancy will provide a clear framework for the Government of Liberia and donor partners to support the various phases of the rehabilitation of CARI’s infrastructure and human resource capacity with minimum duplication.

Earlier, Deputy Public Works Minister for Rural Development and Community Services, Mr. Jackson Paye, emphasized the need for the rehabilitation of CARI to meet minimum and acceptable standard that will improve food production in Liberia.

He pledged the Public Works Ministry’s preparedness to work with the MOA to develop and rehabilitate farm- to- market- roads in rural Liberia.

Meanwhile, the Technical Advisor to the Chief Officer of Sheladia, Mr. Mathew Kane, has expressed gratitude to MOA for selecting their entity to provide architectural engineering consultancy and the construction of CARI.

He described the initiative as critical for agriculture development in Liberia, indicating that the project will provide basic needed information for poverty reduction and food security in Liberia.

Kane pledged his entity’s commitment to high quality outcome at each stage of the project including reviewing the existing condition of the facilities, surveying sites to develop building and monitoring and construction of the facilities.
