PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT: The Authority of the Ministry of National Defense is pleased to formally inform the public about the sequence of events marking the 8th Armed Forces Day. The day was legislated in 1957 to commemorate the service rendered by our veterans and active duty soldiers in defense of their country.

This year, February 11, 2015, marks the 58th anniversary of Armed Forces Day and 107th year of existence, dating back to 1908.

The 58th Anniversary of the Armed Forces Day will be celebrated under the theme: “Enhancing the Capabilities of the Armed Forces of Liberia to Conduct Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief Operations.” The sequence of activities for this year’s Armed Forces Day is as follow:
⦁    On Friday, February 6, 2015, the pre-celebration activities begin with a Jummat Service. The Jummat Service will be held at the Gurley Street Mosque beginning at 1:00PM.
⦁    On Saturday, February 7, 2015, there will be a Cleanup Campaign at designated areas in Buchanan, Grand Bassa County; beginning at 8:00AM.
⦁    On Sunday, February 8, 2015, a Thanksgiving and Intercessory Prayer Service will be held at 10:00AM.
⦁    The symposium will take place under the theme: “MILITARY SUPPORT TO CIVIL AUTHORITIES: THE WAY FORWARD” with Dr. Kimmie Weeks, serving as the Moderator while the Keynote Speaker of the symposium is Cllr. Benedict F. Sannoh, Minister of Justice, Liberia.
⦁    On Wednesday, February 11, 2015, the official celebration of the Armed Forces Day will take place at the Barclay Training Center Grand Stand, beginning as early as 7:20AM
Following the in-door program, the gallant men and women in arms will parade through the principal streets of central Monrovia, beginning at BTC-Lynch Street via the UN Drive.

The official Armed Forces Day program is expected to be graced by an array of officials from the three branches of the Liberian Government, members of the Diplomatic and Consular Corps and other high profile guests.

The Guest Speaker for the 58th Armed Forces Day is Hon. Samuel Kofi Woods, Former Minister of Public Works, Liberia.

The official day celebration ends with an Armed Forces Day Ball at 7:00PM at the Executive Pavilion on Broad Street.
