MONROVIA, October 20 (LINA) - A 19-year-old man from the Bernard Farm Community in Montserrado County, Jacob Kaiglee, has been detained at the Monrovia Central Prison pending trial for allegedly raping a 14-year-old girl on October 9.

According to police charge sheet, police arrested Kaiglee on October 11 at his Bernard Farm residence following a complaint filed by the victim’s mother, Rebecca Johnson.

He was later taken to the Women and Children Protection Section (WACPS) of the Liberia National Police (LNP), acquainted with his rights and charged with Rape in violation of the new Rape Law of Liberia, the Liberia News Agency reported Monday.

The charge sheet quotes the victim’s mother as saying that Kaiglee allegedly lured the victim to his room while she was at work and her daughter was in the care of other children, including females in the house.

According to her, the other children went to play in the neighborhood, and defendant Kaiglee allegedly used the opportunity to sexually abuse the victim.

Meanwhile, during police preliminary investigation, defendant Kaiglee denied the allegation and told investigators that he had no sexual contact with the victim as contained in the complaint.

He, however, admitted to usually playing with all the children in the house, including the victim, but that he never had sexual intercourse with her.
