On Wednesday, February 18, President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf launched the National Policy on Decentralization and Local Governance. The policy is aimed at decentralizing governance in Liberia, and the launching is in response to the long yawning of the Liberian people to see tangible evidence of decentralization.
The Beauty of our democratic system enables the free, fair, open and rank exchange of ideas that either favor or go against the government of the day. Lest we forget that the government duly elected by the people through a democratic process owes it to all and sundry in order to safeguard the public trust, we are doomed.
The significance of democracy, said the Liberian Leader, President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, is about competing on the basis of utilizing ideas to improve the lives of people, the people politicians want to lead.
A famous Methodist Hymn begins and ends with these lines:
“Dear Lord and Father of Mankind
Forgive us our Foolish Ways
Reclothe us in our rightful mind
In purer lives thy service Find
In Deeper Reverence Praise."
