As Muslims around the world observe the Holy Month of Ramadan, President Ellen Johnson has donated a consignment of rice to several mosques in and around Monrovia. According to an Executive Mansion release, the Liberian leader, kicking off the distribution exercise at the Unity Mosque near the Fish Market community where she lives, urged the Muslims to pray for the country’s peace and stability.

“As we know that the Holy Month of Ramadan is on, the prayer time for all Muslims, and during this particular period you all always fast and pray for the nation’s peace and development. I just stop by to share something with you as to break your fast each day during this period,” President Sirleaf said.

On behalf of the Imam and Elders Council and the entire congregation of Unity Mosque, Imam Ali Krayee thanked President Sirleaf for always identifying with them not only during the Holy Month but at all times crucial to Muslims. “We in this community are particularly grateful and appreciative of the manner in which you cater to us,” Imam Krayee said.

Also speaking, the Assistant Imam Kalilu Jalloh recounted President Sirleaf’s gesture of providing electricity to the community, free of charge, and on their behalf thanked her for the kind and humanitarian gesture.

He further noted that the Liberian leader, bringing a consignment of rice for Muslims in that community was not a surprise, but admitted that it will help in a big way, especially for those Muslims who cannot afford.

The Coordinator at the Office of President Sirleaf, Toe Wesseh indicated that 500 bags of rice will be distributed to 15 mosques in and around Monrovia.

He appealed to Liberians including Christians to join their Muslim brothers to pray for the country, especially in the wake of the Ebola epidemic that is currently claiming many lives across the country.
