Phebe, which serves as a regional referral hospital for Lofa, Bong, Margibi and Nimba counties, was shut down after five of its health workers contracted the deadly Ebola virus.

In an exclusive interview with the Liberia News Agency via telephone on Wednesday, Senator Yallah said a tentative date of September 8 has been set for the re-opening ceremony.

He also revealed that efforts are underway to positively respond to a request from the Board of the hospital for a monthly allotment US$25,000 to enable the hospital effectively perform its routine functions and the added responsibilities from the Ebola disease outbreak.

The hospital, which runs a nursing school, also serves as first point of practice for students of the Cuttington University Bachelor of Science Degree program in Nursing.

It is jointly operated by the Government of Liberia and the Lutheran and Episcopal Churches in Liberia.

According to Senator Yallah, the entire workforce of the hospital is currently undergoing training in the management Ebola and other tropical diseases to improve service delivery as well as ensure that they understand the protective measures while treating patients.

Senator Yallah has, meanwhile, thanked the government for the level of support to the hospital thus far, and hoped that additional support would be provided to ensure full revitalization of the Phebe and C.B. Dunbar facilities which are currently closed.
