President Sirleaf reiterated that Liberia’s economic recovery is based upon the growth and development of the private sector which serves as the engine of growth and as such Liberia welcomes every move by China aimed at building the nation’s private sector.
President Sirleaf made the statement at the Samuel K. Doe Sports Stadium in Paynesville on Monday when the Chinese Government through its Embassy near Monrovia handed over a huge consignment of donated items valued at US$5 million to assist with Liberia’s post-Ebola recovery.
The Liberian leader asserted that through its period of struggle, Liberia has always been remembered and assisted by China through financial and logistical support, adding that “China has always stood with Liberia as a true friend.”  
President Sirleaf recounted China’s initial assistance and contribution to Liberia’s fight against the Ebola disease, something, she said, must be appreciated by all Liberians as China was the first to render international assistance to Liberia during the virus outbreak.
She said as Liberia goes through the gradual count-down process to becoming an Ebola-free nation every Liberian must approach the fight against the virus with a renewed vigor so that the nation can begin its post-Ebola recovery.
According to President Sirleaf the items donated by China begins Liberia’s post-Ebola recovery preparation, a move which will be highlighted as she joins the Presidents of Guinea and Sierra Leone to discuss post-Ebola recovery strategies in Washington D.C.
