GBARNGA, December 11 (LINA) - Fuamah District Commissioner Hampton Giddings has resisted plans by the County Health Team (CHT) to recall the burial team from the district.
He noted that despite the month-long calm in the Ebola situation in the district, recalling the burial team from there will signal complacency, a situation which he described as “dangerous” to the fight against the killer disease.
Giddings disclosed that all deaths following the outbreak of the disease have and continue to be treated as those of Ebola and that victims are being buried by the Ebola burial team.
Making the disclosure to the Liberia News Agency in Gbarnga Wednesday, Giddings said while it is true that Ebola has been eradicated in the district, the virus still poses danger as gold and diamond miners residing in the district and across the St. Paul River are yet to accept that the disease is real.
“I am frustrated about the planned decision of the county health team and the refusal of miners and residents of the district to accept that the virus exists because it has claimed the lives of about 40 people,” Giddings lamented.
He has meanwhile lauded the management of China Union for donating 100 bags of 25kg rice and 25 gallons of vegetable oil to the district, and assured that the items would be used in case of an emergency situation.
Fuamah District is one of the hardest hit districts in Bong County, as several towns in the district, including Nyennyea and Mawah, were quarantined for a period of 21 days.
