TUBMANBURG, December 21 (LINA) -The Bomi County Health Team is calling on national and international partners to provide additional support to the county health team (CHT) to buttress its efforts to fight the Ebola virus.

The county health team says its quick impact proposal is intended to train taxi drivers, police officers, motorcyclists and inmates of the Tubmanburg Central Prison, among others across the county, in Ebola awareness and prevention.

Making the disclosure at the regular Bomi County Ebola Task Force meeting in Tubmanburg Friday, the head of the team, Dr. Gabriel Gorbee Logan said the health team will train 60 participants from the various groups, noting, “We are focusing on them because they interact with people on a daily basis.”

According to Dr. Logan, the training of motorcyclists and taxi drivers as well as personnel of the Liberia National Police and prison inmates will help in the dissemination of Ebola prevention and awareness messages across the county to protect and save the lives of their commuters and residents.

Dr. Logan pointed out that if the county has to meet up with the government’s December 31 Ebola eradication deadline, national and international partners should augment their support to the government, especially in the area of training.

The county health team boss is at the same time calling on partners to also increase their support to children who have been affected by the Ebola Virus Disease as the previous supply is very low, noting “The children must be cared for during and after the Ebola is wiped from the county.”

Dr. Logan pointed that UNICEF has been the only international non-governmental organization that has provided support to Ebola affected children in the county with the provision of US$4,950 to 33 Ebola affected children in November 2014.
