MONROVIA, December 6 (LINA) –The Deputy Information Minister for Public Affairs, Isaac Jackson, has cautioned Liberians to desist from constructing houses in laid out alleys, rights of way, government reserved lands and prohibited areas.

According to Deputy Minister Jackson, such unapproved structures threaten free flow of water and impede swift emergency medical services, warning that government will demolish those buildings when it begins clearing alleys anytime this year.

Deputy Minister Jackson sounded the warning Tuesday at the Ministry of Information daily Ebola briefing shortly after the Minister of Public Works (MPW), Gyude Moore, announced the clearing of alleys along the ELWA-Robertsfield highway.

The Deputy Information Minister did not mention the cost of the project, but said it will be funded by the Japanese government and begins as soon as possible.

“If your house was marked “X” or “Remove” or “Be Removed” by the Ministry, please do not go ahead with your project or paint over it, because we will surely demolish it”, he asserted.

The ministry of public works has over the years carried out series of mapping exercises in and around Monrovia to create awareness among citizens on its demolition exercises.
