MONROVIA, September 3 (LINA) -The Liberia National Police (LNP) has termed as false and misleading claims by the publisher of the Women Voices Newspaper alleging that she was harassed by officers of the LNP.
An official of the LNP said Helen Nah was never harassed because the institution is not in the business of harassing journalists and other citizens.
Director of Public Affairs Sam Collins speaking on the UNMIL Radio program ‘Coffee Break’ program on Wednesday said the publisher was only invited to provide facts on an article she published accusing LNP authorities of squandering money intended for officers on the Ebola Taskforce.
Collins pointed out that the Crime Services Division (CSD) department photographed and profiled the Women Voices publisher, adding “This is a normal process.”
He noted: “If this is what she and her lawyers call harassment then it is unfortunate.”
He said LNP authorities see the Women Voices publication as a blackmail and as such, they need all of the facts from the publisher to enable the LNP launch an immediate investigation into the allegation.
He said the investigation continues on Wednesday, September 3, and encouraged Miss Nah and her lawyers to be present at the police headquarters.
On Monday, September 1, the publisher of the Women Voices accused officers of the LNP of harassing her at their headquarters where she was invited to answer to an article the paper published last Friday alleging that police authorities had squandered money intended for officers assigned to the Ebola Taskforce.
