MONROVIA, September 1 (LINA) -Deputy Information Minister for Public Affairs, Atty. Isaac Jackson, has said government’s decision to lift the quarantine imposed on the Township of West Point was based on recommendations from the Ministry of Health.

He said the decision was based on a recommendation to the President and the National Security Council by the Minister of Health and health authorities working in the Township of West Point.
The recommendation indicating that following their work with the community and its residents, all measures to institute a local leadership in the township to combat the Ebola virus was put into place.
Jackson made the statement Monday at the Ministry of Information special press conference held in the conference hall of the ministry.
He said the township has been divided into seven zones with an active surveillance teams responsible for contact tracing at the community level and are well equipped to take on the leadership role in combating the disease.
Minister Jackson said this was one of the factors that prompted the President to endorse the health ministry’s recommendation to lift the isolation.
He pointed out that arguments by some people that West Point is Ebola-free should be expelled from the public domain, as the entire country has not been declared free from the disease unless otherwise stated by the relevant authorities.
“West Point is providing satisfactory leadership and responsibility and has also met the necessary obligations required to firmly battle the Ebola disease. The president went to West Point and carried on an assessment; that is why she was pleased to follow the recommendations from the MOH,” Jackson said.
At the same time, Minister Jackson has disclosed that government is doing all it can to address the situation of the Dolo's Town community.
He said when the necessary measures are put into place the President will reach a decision based on the health ministry’s recommendations.
