MONROVIA, January 6 (LINA)-The local NGO, “Smile Gbarpolu”, has donated a consignment of drugs and bales of used clothing valued at US 800.00 to residents of eight towns in District #2 in lower Gbarpolu County.
Disclosing this at a press conference Tuesday at his office on the Old Road, the founder and Executive Director of Smile Gbarpolu, Cole Sumo Payne, said the three cartons of drugs cost US500.00, while the bales of used clothes are valued at US300.00.
He disclosed that the donation was his organization’s way of identifying with residents in this period of the Ebola outbreak.
Mr. Payne said the lack of a health facility in the area was posing danger to the health of citizens in that part of the country.
He explained that to help improve the livelihood of the people, his organization has acquired some power saws and other working tools to enable residents reopen farm-to-market roads which have been closed as a result of the civil conflict.
Payne added that the closure of the roads was also causing difficulties for commuters and farmers in those areas, noting that residents walk several miles to get to nearby markets and other places.
He called on political leaders from the county to buttress the efforts of his organization in meeting the needs of the people.
Smile Gbarpolu is a humanitarian organization established in March 2011 to cater to needy Gbarpolu citizens, especially those from Belle District.
