Reuters news agency quoted an Ivorian member of parliament as blaming the attack on an army base in Grabo on supporters of ex-President Laurent Gbagbo, the member of parliament alleged, Yaya Coulibaly, based in Liberia.
But in a statement, Minister Brown said the Liberian government was working with its Ivorian counterpart in bringing the perpetrators to book.
“The Government of Liberia is concerned about news reports of recent attacks in border towns and villages of Cote D’Ivoire. Consistent with the policies of good neighborliness and a commitment to regional peace and security, the relevant Liberian security agencies are seriously investigating these reports as well as engaging their counterparts in Abidjan,” Minister Brown said.
The Liberian government recently tried and found guilty 13 of 14 of its citizens hailing from the border county of Grand Gedeh for carrying on cross-border raid in Ivory Coast.
“The Liberian government is fully committed to work with and support the Ivorian authorities and international partners in strengthening border security, regional peace and stability, as well as raid our countries of the mutually destabilizing activities of non-state actors,” Minister Brown added.
