The City Mayor of Gbarnga City Corporation (GCC) Gallah Varpilah has disclosed that the city is currently experiencing massive transformation through robust sanitation work and layout of major alleys.

Speaking in an interview with the Liberia News Agency (LINA) in Gbarnga City, Bong County, Mayor Varpilah disclosed that his team has embarked on a robust sanitation program aimed at giving the city a face-lift.

According to him, the sanitation approach of his team includes the grading of community roads, planting of flowers and trees as windbreaks and daily disposal of garbage in and around the city.

Mayor Varpilah also stated that other African Countries including Ghana are being praised for beauty because of how they proceed with sanitary implementation coupled with patriotism and love for the country.

Gbarnga, the Mayor maintained, can be even more decent than cities in those countries if residents fully embrace his vision.

He added that his vision, when actualized, will see an improved city that will host high profile government officials and foreign partners on a daily basis.

Mayor Varpilah disclosed that he is in consultation with the resident engineer of the County to ensure the opening of major alleys in the city beginning late October 2024.

"Currently, we are working with the resident engineer in identifying alleys aimed at laying out the city. As you can see, we have a special team responsible for planting flowers and trees along the streets that will be of good design and windbreakers", he said.

Also, Mayor Varpilah cautioned residents of Gbarnga City against the construction of structures in alley ways, citing that people caught in violation will face the full weight of the law.

“I want people building in alleys to stop immediately because no stone will be left unturned when the time comes to open the alleys, void of political influence and status,” Varpilah warned.

Meanwhile, Mayor Gallah Varpilah has underscored the need for the increment of the workforce at the Gbarnga City Corporation.

The Gbarnga City Mayor who also was elected recently in Nimba as Chairman for the City Mayor Council of Liberia named dump trucks, wheel barrows, shovels amongst others as essential tools needed to enhance the workings of the city government.
