GOL Wants UL Faculty Return To Status Quo By Margretta Y Mulbah & K. Ericson Sayee MONROVIA, June 17 (LINA) – The Minister of Information, Cultural Affairs and Tourism (MICAT), Jerolinmek M. Piah, has called on the faculty and staff of the University of Liberia to return to normal class activities as the Government of Liberia exerts efforts to address their concerns. Speaking Monday in an interview with the Liberia Broadcasting System, the government spokesman called on the faculty and staff of the University to resume normal school activities and await a formal directive from President Boakai to the Secretary of the Board of Trustees. Minister Piah indicated that the state-run University is confronted with challenges that can be resolved amicably but it requires holistic efforts by everyone and, as such, there is a need for the faculty to go back to normal working and learning activities while the problem is being resolved. “This is the reason President Boakai is appealing to the leadership to restore calm for the growth of peace, and it is his hope that the faculty will listen as they pay keen attention to their problems," Minister Piah noted. He added that with their cooperation and collective efforts, the situation at the University of Liberia, which President Boakai administration sees as a major concern to the government, can be resolved to create an enabling learning environment for the student populace and the administration. It can be recalled that the UL Faculty and Staff Association issued a press statement calling on all members of the association to disengage from classes as they seek the removal of Dr.Juluis S Nelson, President of the university, and others for maltreatment against them.
