MICAT, Local Authorities In Grand Bassa County To Celebrate World Tourism Day

 The Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs and Tourism (MICAT) in collaboration with local county authorities in Grand Bassa County has disclosed plans to celebrate World Tourism Day in Grand Bassa County.

Appearing at the Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs and Tourism regular press conference on September 24, 2024, the Deputy Minister for Culture and Tourism, Madam Kadiatu D. Konteh-Brohiri revealed that this year, Grand Bassa County has been chosen as the national host for the celebrations of World Tourism Day.

She added that the event will demonstrate how tourism fosters peace by promoting cross-cultural understanding, creating economic opportunities, and contributing to sustainable development.

Minister Brohiri highlights the power of tourism in facilitating peaceful interactions between individuals from diverse backgrounds, cultures, and nations, noting that through shared experiences, tourism bridges divides and supports social cohesion, contributing to peace on a global scale.

Commenting on the importance of the tourism sector, she indicated that tourism is one of the most powerful drivers of economic development, job creation, and poverty alleviation, pointing out that Liberia, with its vast tourism potential, can leverage its natural resources and historical landmarks to attract international visitors and boost its economy.

She added that tourism fosters peace by encouraging dialogue and understanding between people of different backgrounds, citing that visitors engage with local cultures, learn about history, and build connections that contribute to global harmony.

“This year's celebration will spotlight Grand Bassa County's stunning beaches, rich cultural heritage, and eco-tourism potential, particularly showcasing destinations such as Buchanan beach and other historical landmarks in the region. Sustainable tourism, which promotes environmental preservation and community engagement, is essential for peaceful co-existence," Madam Brohiri added.

She disclosed that the team has rolled out a series of activities leading to the celebration of the World Tourism Day, which include pre-event awareness, stakeholder engagement, cultural performance and site tours.
