Labor Ministry Embarks On Nationwide Tour At Concession Sites In Liberia

The Minister of Labor, Cllr. Cooper W. Kruah has commenced a nationwide tour of major concessions in the country, aimed at assessing the country's overall labor sector for critical reforms.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Labor dated September 7, 2024, Minister Kruah and his team visited the operational facilities of China Union, formerly Bong Mining Company in Lower Bong County, to ensure they are in line with the Labor Laws of Liberia and to acquire first-hand information at various mining sites.
According to the statement, the fact-finding tour took Minister Kruah and his team to the main processing plant, ruined housing units, water and electrical units, adding that all of those areas have gradually been revamped by the management of China Union Concession Company.
The release quoted Minister Kruah as indicating at the close of the day-long tour that the Government of Liberia remains committed to providing livelihood, and economic opportunities to Liberians through job creation.
It said that Minister Kruah revealed that normal operations of the China Union have not commenced in full-scale due to a closure order by government through the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) but expressed optimism that the situation can be quickly resolved to enable the company resume active work for the greater benefit of Bong County.
"President Joseph Boakaiβs Government is committed to creating an enabling environment for Liberians while the Ministry of Labor will continue to encourage employment entities, including China Union to adhere to this policy by providing sustainable economic livelihood to our citizens,β Minister Kruah noted.
Meanwhile, Minister Kruah and his team are expected to depart Monrovia shortly for other counties in continuation of the assessment tour of the country's labor sector for needed reforms, in line with the governmentβs development agenda.
