To achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, President Joseph Nyuma Boakai calls for transformation of global governance

His Excellency, President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has told world leaders at the UN Summit of the Future that global governance must be transformed in order to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.

The President has also called for the creation of a fairer financial environment that empowers countries to pursue their development goals; urging the international community to take drastic measures to alleviate the economic pressures faced by vulnerable nations.

President Boakai then called on world leaders to work together to remove barriers that hinder the potential of developing nations to enable “us to advance our shared vision for sustainable development.”

He continued: “if countries are to turbocharge to achieve the sustainable development goals, the global financial system needs to transform in a way that prioritizes liquidity and reduces burden on developing nations.”

The Liberian leader spoke Sunday, September 22nd, at the UN Headquarters in New York, where he is due to address the UN General Assembly later in the week.

The Summit of the Future is organized by the UN from September 22nd-23rd to demand bold actions and commitments from world leaders to redefine humanity’s path for a brighter today and a more secure tomorrow.
