MONROVIA, Oct. 22 (LINA) – ECOWAS Ambassador to Liberia, Josephine Nkrumah, has called on the government and policymakers to empower young Liberians with the necessary tools to combat climate change effectively.
Speaking during the commemoration of International Disaster Risk Reduction Day, held over the weekend in Monrovia, Ambassador Nkrumah stressed the importance of a practical and coordinated approach to tackling climate issues in Liberia. She emphasized that providing the necessary support to young Liberians is key to safeguarding the country from future disasters.
She at the same time reaffirmed ECOWAS’s continued support to Liberia’s National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA) and the Liberian government in their efforts to enhance climate resilience.
The annual observance aims to encourage both citizens and governments to take proactive steps in building disaster-resilient communities.
This year’s event, themed: “Empowering Liberian Youth Through Disaster Risk Reduction Education for a Resilient Future,” focused on the role of education in equipping young people to address climate-related challenges.
ECOWAS, a regional body aimed at fostering economic growth and reducing poverty, has been instrumental in reducing trade barriers and supporting initiatives that promote sustainable development across West Africa.
